Course Description

Learn how to create, edit, and optimize documents in the word processor that is preferred by employers and used by millions around the world.

Word is used to create everything from resumes and memos to reports, newsletters, and even novels. It allows you to customize the design of your document, create custom templates, and automatically update references, table of contents, and page layout designs.

Power users can protect documents for privacy & security, create macros to automate frequently used tasks, customize the layout of commands in the software, and perform mail merges with confidence.

Our courses can be delivered in half-day (3-hour) or full-day (6-hour) increments at either our office or yours and our instructors are available for morning, afternoon, or early evening start times, seven days a week.

Microsoft Word - Level 1

Who should attend:         This course is intended for new Microsoft Word users.
Prerequisites:                     Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10.

Duration:                             6 Hours

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to accomplish the following:

  • Understand the concepts of word processing and learn how to start and exit Microsoft Word, open, save, and close documents.
  • Insert and delete text to edit a document and print the document and select different views.
  • Change paragraph alignment, and move, copy, and replace text in a document.
  • Enhance text appearance by changing character and paragraph formatting, and using Quick Styles.
  • Use tab stops, change indents, apply bullets and numbering, and change line spacing to enhance document appearance.
  • Use margins, page breaks, and headers and footers to enhance the page layout.
  • Simplify proofreading of documents by checking spelling, enhance productivity by using AutoCorrect and AutoText, and streamline document creation by using templates.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to accomplish the following:

  • Create and modify tables to organize data and enhance appearance.
  • Use the Mail Merge task pane with different data sources and main documents to create form letters, envelopes, and mailing labels.
  • Use styles to create consistently formatted documents and to facilitate changing paragraph and character formatting.
  • Create and insert Quick Parts to reuse data and content and create documents with consistent standards.
  • Use existing templates to provide consistent document editing and formatting, and create custom form templates.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to accomplish the following:

  • Assign themes and insert graphics to add visual appeal to documents and Web pages created in Word, including the use of clip art, WordArt, SmartArt, charts, and shapes.
  • Divide documents into separate sections, add headers and footers, and divide pages into multiple text columns.
  • Use Outline view and the Navigation pane to organize documents, create tables of contents and indexes, add references to help navigate and display document information, sort lists in regular text and tables, and set up mathematical formulas in Word tables.
  • Track document changes, insert comments, protect documents from being changed, and compare and merge documents.
  • Record and edit macros to automate repetitive actions, assign keyboard shortcuts to macros, and customize the Quick Access Toolbar to quickly access macros and commands.
